Vietnam Trek FAQ!

When is this trip?

The trip is from 2 to 8 December 2016 (7D6N). We will be meeting at Changi Airport on 2 Dec at 6am, our flight leaves at 8am. We leave Hanoi on 8 Dec, 11.10am and return on the same day at around 3.45pm.

Where will be visiting?

We will be venturing to the mountainous region of Sapa, as well as the highest point in Vietnam, Mt Fansipan.

At 1500m above sea level in the Hoang Lien Son mountain range, we will get to enjoy both the rugged scenery and the rich cultural diversity of the locals during our 2 nights of homestay at Sapa. Take a breath of fresh air and soak in the beauty of multicoloured crop fields, extending as far as your eyes can see. 

And not to be forgotten, is Mt Fansipan, the highest peak in Indochina at 3143m above sea level. We promise you a breathtaking view like no other.


What is the difficulty rating of this trek?

2.5 out of 5 stars. The main trekking portion of this trip is in Sapa, where we will have a 3D2N trek from village to village in the region. Our accommodation for those 2 nights will be in homestays.

How much does this trip cost? What does the cost include?

The estimated cost of this trek is S$700 (dependent on airfare price). It includes airfare, all land transport, all accommodation, the permits & guides, meals on the trek (3rd Dec L/D, 4th Dec B/L/D, 5th Dec B/L). Members of NUS Rovers are eligible for a $5 discount.  You will however have to bring your own money for the rest of the meals and other expenses.

How long are the various travel times?

Flight time from Singapore to Hanoi is approximately 3 hours. From Hanoi to Sapa, we will be traveling in a private 29 seater bus and the travel time will be around 5 hours. From Sapa to Hanoi we will take an overnight train, which will take about 8 hours.

How many participants will there be on this trek?

We will be having a total of 10 participants and 4 committee members on the trek.

What is the brief itinerary?

Day 1 (2 December): Flight from Singapore to Hanoi. Bus to Sapa, Arrive in Sapa.

Day 2 (3 December): Sapa Trek Day 1(Giang Ta Chai Village)

Day 3 (4 December): Sapa Trek Day 2 (Ban Ho Village)

Day 4 (5 December): Trek Day 3 and End of Sapa trek.

Day 5 (6 December): Visit Mt Fansipan (cable car). Overnight train back to Hanoi.

Day 6 (7 December): Arrive in Hanoi. Free and Easy in Hanoi.

Day 7 (8 December): Flight from Hanoi to Singapore.

Will there be a local guide?

We have enlisted a local agency to provide the guides, transport and accommodation.

Where will we be spending our nights?

Of the 6 nights, 1 will be spent on the overnight train. Of the remaining 5 nights, 2 will be spent in Sapa at a hotel, 2 will be during the trek at a homestay and the last 1 at a Hanoi hotel prior to our flight. It is recommended to also bring along sleeping bags for the homestays.

How and where will we be having our meals?

Certain meals (5 breakfasts, 3 lunches and 2 dinners) will be provided throughout the trip. All other meals during the trek itself will be an opportunity for us to experience the wonders of Vietnamese cuisine!

Will there be shower facilities?

There will be shower facilities at all our accommodations.

What will the weather be like?

December weather is cooling with temperatures between 8-15 degrees celcius.
