When is this trip?
The trip is from 10 to 16 July 2016 (6D6N). We will be meeting at Changi Airport on 10 July at 12pm, our flight leaves at 3.30pm. We leave Hanoi on 16 July 1pm and return on the same day at around 6pm.
Where will be visiting?
We will be visiting the country of Vietnam, with 2 main points of interest, the mountainous region of Sapa, as well as the calm and peaceful Ha Long Bay. Sapa lies 1500m above sea level in the Hoang Lien Son mountain range near the Chinese border in north western Vietnam. It is known for its rich cultural diversity as well as its rugged scenery. Ha Long Bay is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in north eastern Vietnam, approximately 400km away from Sapa. It is known for towering limestone pillars and tiny islets, as well as multiple caves. We will be taking an overnight cruise on Ha Long Bay to fully experience and explore the area.
What is the difficulty rating of this trek?
2 out of 5 stars. The main trekking portion of this trip is in Sapa, where we will have a 3D2N trek from village to village in the region. Our accommodation for those 2 nights will be in homestays and we will be trekking for an average of 2-3 hours per day. However, we will be visiting a local market on the 2nd day of the trek and it will hence be more relaxed on that day. For Ha Long Bay, we will be taking a 2D1N cruise on board the Paloma. Cruise activities include kayaking and swimming in the bay, exploring caves such as the Thien Canh Son cave as well as relaxing on the beach at Hon Co Island.
How long are the various travel times?
Flight time from Singapore to Hanoi is approximately 3 hours. Throughout the trip, we will be travelling from place to place in a private 29 seater bus. Travel time from Hanoi to Sapa will be around 5 hours, Sapa to Ha Long Bay will be overnight and around 7 hours while Ha Long Bay to Hanoi will be around 4 hours.
How much does this trip cost? What does the cost include?
The estimated cost of this trek is $750SGD (dependent on airfare price). The money you pay will go into airfare, all land transport, all accommodation, the permits & guides, meals on the trek (11th July L/D, 12th July B/L/D, 13th July B/L), meals onboard the cruise (14th July L/D, 15 July B/L) as well as most cruise activities such as kayaking and sightseeing. Members of NUS Rovers are eligible for a $5 discount. You will however have to bring your own money for the rest of the meals and other expenses.

There will be a maximum of 16 participants on this trek.
What is the brief itinerary?
Day 1 (10 July): Flight from Singapore to Hanoi. Bus to Sapa, Arrive in Sapa.
Day 2 (11 July): Trek Day 1 at Y Linh Ho and Ta Van village, Overnight at homestay.
Day 3 (12 July): Trek Day 2 (Coc Ly Market visit), Overnight at homestay.
Day 4 (13 July): Trek Day 3 at Giang Ta Chai village, Overnight bus to Ha Long Bay
Day 5 (14 July): Arrive at Ha Long Bay, Overnight Cruise.
Day 6 (15 July): Cruise till noon, Bus to Hanoi, Overnight at Hanoi hotel.
Day 7 (16 July): Flight from Hanoi to Singapore.
Will there be a local guide?
We have enlisted a local agency to provide the guides, transport and accommodation (Sapa Sisters).
Where will we be spending our nights?
Of the 6 nights, 1 will be spent on the overnight bus. Of the remaining 5 nights, 1 will be spent in Sapa at a hotel, 2 will be during the trek at a homestay, 1 will be spent on board the cruise at Ha Long Bay and the last 1 at a Hanoi hotel prior to our flight.
How and where will we be having our meals?
Certain meals (3 breakfasts, 5 lunches and 3 dinners) will be provided throughout the trip. Refer to our cost breakdown for more details. All other meals during the trek itself will be an opportunity for us to experience the wonders of Vietnamese cuisine! (We’ll have a guide to tell us what’s safe.)
Will there be shower facilities?
There will be shower facilities at all our accommodations.
What will the weather be like?
July is the start of the rainy season for Sapa as well as Ha Long Bay, with Sapa having an average temperature of 19 degrees celcius while Ha Long Bay will be 29 degrees celcius.
