When is the trek?
It will be from 8 January 2020 to 11 January 2020 (3.5 days, 3 nights). We will depart in the afternoon and return back to Singapore in the evening.
Where are we going?
This time, we will be heading to Penang Island, a Malaysian island off the Malay Peninsula in the Strait of Malacca.
How is the trip like?
Day 1: We will catch an afternoon flight to Penang. After clearing immigration, we will make our way to our accommodation in Georgetown. We will explore Clan Jetties in the evening and have dinner in the vicinity.
Day 2: We start the day with a trek at Penang National Park, where we will trek to Pantai Keracut (Turtle Beach). After that, we will visit a small waterfall and catch the sunset at Batu Ferringhi Beach.
Day 3: We head out to Balik Pulau in the morning for a guided cycling tour around the beautiful countryside. In the afternoon, we will trek from Air Itam Dam to Tiger Hill, before ending at Penang Hill.
Day 4: The last day will be a free and easy day, where you can spend time exploring Georgetown for all that is has to offer! (Food + Street art) We will return to Singapore in the evening.
Will this trek be difficult?
Overall, we are rating the treks 1.5/5. We don’t think it will be very challenging, but do be prepared for a lot of walking and sweating it out!
How much is it and what does it include?
This trip will cost only $200 for NUS Rovers Members and $210 for non-members. The price includes a two-way flight, transport, local guide (cycling) and also your accommodation. All other costs shall be borne by you.
What is not included?
- Anything else that are not mentioned in the itinerary such as food, shopping expenses, tips and transport during R&R.
- Travel Insurance: NUS provides minimal insurance coverage for NUS students ONLY. Hence, NUS students with pre-existing medical conditions are advised to purchase their own travel insurance for more coverage if they require it. Non-NUS Students are responsible for getting their own travel insurance.
Where will we be spending our nights?
3 nights at a hostel in Georgetown.
Will there be a local guide?
There will be a local guide for the cycling tour. Apart from that, everything else will be on our own.
You will be travelling with 3 committee members and 13 other participants! There are only 13 slots and they run out fast so don’t hesitate and sign up now! The earlier you sign up, the earlier we can book the air tickets 🙂
How different is this trip?
We have all heard about the good food that Penang has to offer – we wanted this trip to be more than just that; you will get to experience a different side (nature) of Penang. If you are looking for a short and cheap getaway right before school starts, this is for you!
